The WGO medical/evangelism Serve Team ministry revolves around offering basic medical care to poor people in Tegucigalpa and Belmopan, and then taking that opportunity to share the Gospel with them. Thousands of decisions for Christ are made each year. The services include basic medical, dental, and optical care, and a pharmacy to provide the medications that are needed in conjunction with these services. Those who come to our Serve Team sites have few or none of these services available to them. The Serve Teams that arrive during the year are the centerpiece of the physical and spiritual effort, and are the hands and feet of Jesus needed to offer this special ministry.
The Serve Team members’ fees help to cover the costs for conducting these services, but do not cover it all. To help fund the direct medical costs associated with this ministry, we have created a co-payment fund called CarePay. We don’t charge the patients for the medical services they receive, but instead work to raise the funds needed to cover part of the cost (the co-pay) of providing this service. For the Hondurans and Belizeans who cannot afford basic health care, and come through our sites, it is almost like having a basic health care policy with no premium to pay and no co-payment...that’s the CarePay program where WGO, through your involvement, covers the “co-pay” for them. The program is simple. Every $2 that you can donate to CarePay will cover the “co-payment” for one patient. If you can donate $20, then it will provide for 10 patients. We are hoping that many of you will consider a donation of $20 per month providing for 10 patients per month. All we need is 500 people that can sow $20 per month into CarePay to provide for 60,000 people next year.
