Times of Passage

Times of Passage, by Pastor Bill Wealthall

Many individuals are in a time of transition. In the coming weeks, students will be graduating, couples will be marrying, doors will open for new employment and places to live. New things will happen. Although these opportunities can bring much excitement and be great blessings in our lives, these changes can also cause unsettling insecurity and anxiety. We must learn to respond to these situations with unwavering faith. We must ask for guidance from above. Joshua sets a great example for us. When faced with a seemingly impossible passage over the raging, flooded Jordan River (Joshua chapter 3), Joshua encouraged the Israelites to remember that God was with them, that they needed to walk in obedience to the plans and purposes that God had for them, and that they should expect God to do amazing things in their lives. We see in this incredible story that God was faithful and helped them overcome every challenge that was before them. God opened the Jordan River and they walked across a dry river bed into victory! We too must claim the promises of God and move forward. He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). As our Good Shepherd, He will lead us, guide us, and direct our steps (Psalm 32:8, Psalm 37:23). He will give us a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). In Him, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). He is able to make all grace abound to us (2 Corinthians 9:8) and supply all our needs (Philippians 4:19). When we ask that His will be done in our lives, He gives us wisdom, discernment, and the ability to go forward in ways that bring Him honor and glory. Let’s move forward expecting God to do great and amazing things!
